Very Strange And Disturbing Animations

Today I have chosen a couple of truly weird and disturbing animations for your delectation. These are animations that are definitely not for children to watch!

The first one is called The End, and is seriously strange.  It shows a scarecrow being assaulted and apparently being killed and then thrown into a very horrible prison cell after being tortured and stabbed by another collection of what appear to be scarecrows.

There is also a Magpie involved who keeps attacking our hero in his cell and stealing stuffing from him.

The imagery in this film is extremely strong, and beautifully handled, as is the movement of the various characters we see in the course of the film.  And the sound track is a superb example of how to create a mood with sound.   And what is also curious is that I can’t work out if I am looking at a computer generated film, or a stop-motion film, though I lean towards the computer generated side.   However it is done, the effect is truly impressive and extremely powerful..

Though to be honest I have no idea what it is trying to say to us……

If you have any ideas or suggestions about the possible meaning of this film, do please share it with the rest of us below.

Anyhow, here it is, in all its glory.

See what I mean?   One very odd and dark film.

And now, here is another one, equally dark, but different to the above film.

This one, called Sebastian’s Voodoo was an entrant in the The National Film Board of Canada competition in 2009, which gives you an idea at least of the sort of quality, but obviously not an idea about the style of this film.

Well it is, as was The End, a very dark story that seems to have a sort of twisted happy ending.  I shan’t give it away, but it does sort of end happily, if not for all the main protagonists.  Here we have to do with a strange sort of Voodoo situation, though quite what is going on is never made clear to us, but it seems to be a sort of Voodoo factory for want of a better word.  Anyhow, I think the best thing would be for me to simply show you the film, and let you make of it what you will, so here it comes folks!!!

And who the hell is Sebastian?

The next film I had selected to show you is a very nasty and extremely dark one, in which small children get kidnapped and eaten alive  but on watching it for the second time, I found it so unpleasant I decided I didn’t wish to have any part of promoting it, so you wont get that one from me….

Therefore, to end on a somewhat lighter note, here is a short animation that takes place in a strange dark prison that seems to be populated with curious massive monsters guarded by weird Steam Punk robots.   In fact the entire prison seems to be a sort of Steam Punk place with no humans in sight.

Anyhow, this one is beautifully made by a student at Kingston University in Ontario, which if this is anything to go by, produces some superb animators and story boarders.

So here we go… The Bowl for your pleasure and to counteract the taste of the first two films.
